Shoe construction as defined by United States Patent 4481726
A shoe construction characterized by flexible layers of inelastic material sandwiching a resilient mid-sole that serves to provide stability to the length and width of the foot.

Skate Shoes come in all shapes, sizes, construction, materials, widths, heights and so on. So what should you be looking for in a skateboard shoe with so many choices being presented to you?

First you probably already have a brand in mind before you came here to shop for skate shoes. But lets say you have no clue what you want.
Start out by looking at the styling of all of the shoes, you will notice a trend...

A. Vulcanized Shoes - which are low flat and offer less support but will give you the best board feel since they are essentially a sole glued to a piece of material with a thin insole attached to the material and they usually have a thinner upper..

B. Sizing - There are many different shoe sizing systems used around the world, including the US, UK, European, & Japanese systems. Within systems there can also be variation; for example there are French & Italian versions of the European system. Furthermore, shoe manufacturers may depart from standard size systems, and different shoe styles and toe shapes will also affect fitting. We have put together a collection of shoe sizing charts that you can print out and stand on to determine your size.

Shoe Sizing Tips
1. Many people have one foot larger than the other; size for the larger foot
2. We recommend going up to the next half size if you are in between sizes
3. All shoes will vary in size by style since they are built on different molds
4. We recommend trying on your shoes in the afternoon when your feet are their largest
5. Mens shoes are usually 1 1/2 sizes smaller numerically than womens shoes
   ex: 7 Mens = 8 1/2 Womens
6. Try on shoes with socks that you would normally wear; proper fit should have insteps with no gap and room for the toes to wiggle (usually around the seam of toe cap of the shoe, called the "rule of thumb", you should have one thumbnails length)
7. Socks can add a half size
8. Sandals - Feet should completely cover sandal with about a quarter inch at each end
